From December 13th 2019 to February 22nd 2020, the Maine College of Art featured the Tolerance Poster Show. In the time of a Pandemic, it seems as though we need Tolerance more than ever. Due to this, the Maine College of Art has realized and reconfigured a new version of the Tolerance Poster Show that is showcased in the in the street-side windows of the school.
We are pleased to let you know that in parallel with hosting the Tolerance Poster Shows, ” Politécnico da Guarda “ (IPG), " UNITA - Universitas Monitum " and " Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior " (The Directorate General for Higher Education), an organization part of the "Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation" are organizing series of lectures on "Citizenship and Tolerance". The lectures will be held in the different IPG schools. The first lecture is about the legacy of the Portuguese consul Aristides Sousa Pereira . During the Second World War, he helped Jews in Germany to obtain Portuguese passports, and later he did the same with Jews in France. Despite the huge problems caused to him by the Portuguese fascist regime, Aristides Sousa Pereira managed to save 30,000 refugees, of which 10,000 were Jews.
