Tolerance Posters

At the first Tolerance Poster Show in Ljubljana, Slovenia in March 2017, many posters were defaced or torn down . This March, we held another exhibition in Ljubljana to mark the seventh anniversary of the first exhibition, and the vandalism of posters happened again.  This kind of treatment of Tolerance posters occurs often, but exclusively in Eastern European countries. Why? We can talk about that. One thing is certain: whenever a local politician or wannabe politician publicly speaks out against the exhibition , the vandalism of the posters begins the following day.  

On November 16th, the International Day of Tolerance , the Tolerance Poster Show was displayed in the center of Zagreb on the fence of the Botanical Garden . Here is a link to a short video of the show . Unfortunately only 24 hours later, the show was "attacked" by Neo-Nazis graffitis. On the posters, they wrote "NDH", which is the abbreviation for Nezavisna Država Hrvatska (Independent State of Croatia) a Second World War puppet state of Nazi Germany. On others, they graffitied the letter "U" which is the symbol for Ustaša the Second World War Croatian fascist organization. And they even wrote "Smrt Srbozločincima" (Death to the Serbian criminals). Luckily, the organizers of the show figured out how to remove this hate speech and the symbols. I am very proud to announce that we just had the 100th show of Tolerance Poster Show.  The show opened in Timișoara, on November 16th as part of the celebration for the International Day of Tolerance . This show was made possible by the relentless effort by Ovidiu Hrin in coordination with TypopassageTM , to whom we are very grateful .   After the Neo-Nazi “attacks” on the Tolerance Poster Show in Zagreb, Croatia, it happened again. The second night after the opening of the show, someone cut and stole 10 of the posters. The people there don't think this was done out of hate but rather "just" a crime of admiration. Unfortunately, this "admiration" means other people lost the opportunity to see the work in person. Below is the organizer's statement. "ON TOLERANCE AND GOOD TASTE At the opening of the Tolerance Poster Show in Chelyabinsk I said that any exhibition on such theme as tolerance, especially when you do it outside, in town, is a kind of indicator, test for the society, because any reaction shows whether we are ready to be tolerant or not.
