"Design Activism" Lecture in Banja Luka

Prior to the official opening of the Tolerance Poster Show in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on October 22nd, 2022, I held a  lecture  on the importance of designer activism in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Banja Luka, attended by students, professors and cultural operators from all sectors. We want to extend our gratitude to Edin Atlic, Project Leader at the EU Info Centr e in BiH and Sarita Vujković, director of the  Museum of Contemporary Art of Republic of Srpska . The lecture and the tolerance poster show are realized to mark 2022 – the European Year of Youth. They are supported by the  European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina  & the  EU Info Centre in BiH .    

Student Tolerance Poster Show in Sarajevo

On October 24th 2022, Mirko Ilić gave the lecture " Design Activism " on the importance of free expression, art activism and youth engagement through design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. After the lecture, there was an opening of a tolerance poster show. The show was the result of the workshop of students from four art academies in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Trebinje and Široki Brijeg). The show was opened by professor  Bojan Hadžihalilović  and Ferdinand Koenig, Head of Communications/Spokesperson, Delegation of the European Union to BiH & European Union Special Representative in BiH. Moreover, the tolerance poster show and the Tolerance workshop with the fine art academies are realized to mark 2022 – the European Year of Youth. They are supported by the  European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina  & the  EU Info Centre in BiH .  

Tolerance Poster Workshop in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

On Friday, October 21st, we had a Tolerance poster workshop at the  Academy of Fine Arts  in Sarajevo for students from four art academis in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Trebinje and Široki Brijeg) . They created their Tolerance posters as a product of the intense work over several days. The workshop was made possible with the enormous help from the academies' professors. We especially want to extend our gratitude to professor  Bojan Hadžihalilović  who conceived the idea and organized this workshop. Moreover, the Tolerance workshop with the fine art academies is realized to mark 2022 – the European Year of Youth. It is supported by the  European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina  & the  EU Info Centre in BiH .  

Tolerance Poster Show in Greek Newspaper

Today October 17th, EFSYN newspaper from Greece published an article about the Tolerance Poster Show that took place on October 2nd in response to the Neo-Nazi rally in Plauen, Germany. According to  my greek-speaking friend:  "The article is more than just positive – a real in-depth positive comment on the core of the Tolerance Poster Show concept."

The lecture and the show in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina

On Saturday 22nd, I will have a lecture "Design Activism" at Museum of Modern Art and the opening of a Tolerance Poster Show in a pedestrian zone in the city centre of Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This event is organized and supported by the EU Info Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  

Tolerance Poster Show vs. Neo-Nazis

On Sunday, October 2nd, participants of the demonstration organized by the nazi party "Der III. Weg" (the third way) gathered at Oberer Bahnhof Plauen (train central) in the early afternoon. The police and media estimated a crowd of around 230 people. About 30 Tolerance posters hanging on the ceiling of the lobby hall of the train station "greeted" these participants. The group started marching through the upper part of the city at 3:00 p.m., heavily secured and isolated by police forces, accompanied by several left-wing driven counter-demonstration groups and protesting citizens. Around 4:00 p.m., the group passed by another strategically positioned 20 Tolerance posters mounted on a fence between the elementary school "Karl-Marx-Schule" and kindergarten "Pusteblume" (Dandelion).
